elchi reports that Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Vugar Karimov said this during the session “Combating plastic pollution: promoting livable cities and circular economy” held within the framework of WUF13.
He stated that the use of plastic containers in Azerbaijan has increased 5 times in the last 15 years:
“More than 430 million tons of plastic containers are produced worldwide every year, but only 10 percent of it is recycled. Plastic container production causes serious damage to the atmosphere and contributes to the intensification of climate change. It is important to pay attention to these issues in schools and universities. A relevant agency for waste management has been established in the country. Work on household waste management in Azerbaijan covering the years 2027–2030 is ongoing. It is important to respond to global challenges and take strategic measures for the future. WUF13 is an important platform to focus on this issue once again.”
