The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern.
“Elchi” reports that after consultations with member states, the organization’s Director-General has made the relevant decision regarding the disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus.
WHO emphasized that this is not a pandemic, but a public health emergency.
According to the organization’s data, 80 deaths suspected to be related to the disease, as well as 246 cases of infection, have been recorded in three districts of the Democratic Republic of Congo, eight of which have been laboratory-confirmed. Two cases of infection have been recorded in Uganda, one of which resulted in death.
