Azerbaijan is located in a seismically active region, and this reality forces us to take a responsible approach in the process of construction and operation of buildings, and in the urban planning process as a whole.
elchi reports that this was stated by Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Jabrayil Khanlarov at the conference on “New approaches to the assessment of seismic hazard and risk” dedicated to the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture”.
He stated that the urban planning model must meet modern standards and sustainability requirements:
“It is known that the correct assessment of seismic risks in the urban planning process plays a significant role in preventing potential natural disasters. In this direction, expanding the legal framework, implementing international standards, increasing seismic resilience, and making scientifically grounded decisions are of particular importance. Mutual information exchange between regional countries should be ensured in the management of seismic risks. International cooperation in this field is being carried out successfully.”
