70% of Cuba to face mandatory power outages

The Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) has announced a partial collapse of the National Electric Energy System (SEN), resulting in mandatory power outages affecting approximately 70% of the country.
elchi reports that, in a statement made on the social media platform of the US-based X company, Minem stated that part of the national power grid is offline, causing serious disruptions in energy production.
The statement noted that mandatory power outages will be implemented during peak demand hours in 70% of the country, adding:
“The 6th unit of the Nuevitas Thermal Power Plant and the 3rd unit of the Rente Power Plant, as well as the fuel oil plant, have been disconnected from the National Energy System. In addition to these 3 units, 9 out of the country’s 16 thermal power plants are offline due to malfunctions or maintenance work.”
Cuban media reports indicate that the malfunctions in the national electricity system are caused by fuel shortages and difficulties in obtaining necessary spare parts for power plants due to the US embargo.
