The Global South NGO Platform plays an important role as a mechanism for solidarity, dialogue, and partnership.
elchi reports that this was stated in the UN Secretary-General’s message to the participants of the first General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform.
The message stated that it is essential to promote inclusive development, strengthen resilience, enhance effective multilateralism and cooperation, and fulfill global commitments, especially in terms of supporting Global South countries, ensuring that no one is left behind.
It was noted that the General Assembly’s focus on inclusive urban development, climate resilience, and sustainable governance is of particular importance for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The UN Secretary-General also highly appreciated Azerbaijan’s efforts in promoting multilateralism, international cooperation, and inclusive participation at the global level. It was stated that the UN representation in Azerbaijan is ready to support cooperation in strengthening the role of civil society in implementing sustainable development goals and shaping a sustainable urban future.
The Secretary-General’s message was delivered by Igor Garafulic, Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan.
