Latvian Prime Minister has resigned

Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina has resigned, bringing the entire government with her.

elchi reports that she announced this at a briefing for journalists.

“I am resigning, but I am not giving up and I am not leaving. New Unity and I will continue to fulfill the promises we made to the people of Latvia and to everyone for whom we defend European values,” she said.

Silina accused her opponents of political jealousy and narrow party interests that outweigh responsibility:

“Politicians who saw a strong candidate for the position of Minister of Defense chose a crisis – a government crisis.

My goal was clear – the development of the country, the well-being and security of the people, so that our children value their homeland, their country, Latvia! Parties and coalitions change, but Latvia remains, and the people are here,” the former prime minister added.
