A meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping has begun in Beijing. According to the Xinhua agency, at the beginning of the meeting, Xi stated that he wants to discuss issues of concern to both countries and the world with President Trump and open a new chapter for the future by steering relations in the right direction.
“Elchi” reports that noting the acceleration of unprecedented transformations on a global scale, the volatile and tense international situation, and the fact that the world is at a new historical crossroads, Xi stated that “China and the US must respond to the problems of the era together.”
Emphasizing that China and the US have more common interests than differences and that the success of one country is an opportunity for the other, Xi stated that the two countries should be partners, not rivals, and must find the right way for great powers to move forward by contributing to each other’s success and prosperity.
Noting that good relations between the two great powers benefit the world, Xi Jinping said: “We are ready to make 2026 a historic turning point and open a new chapter in relations by giving the giant ship of China-US relations the right direction.”
“There are no winners in trade wars”
Emphasizing that economic and trade relations between China and the US are based on mutual benefit and are a win-win relationship for both sides, Xi Jinping said: “There are no winners in trade wars. If there are differences and disputes, the only choice for a solution is consultations on an equal basis.”
As for the Taiwan issue, Xi Jinping emphasized that maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is the “greatest common denominator” for China and the US.
