On May 12, the next consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey were held in Ankara.
According to the information provided to “Elchi” by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Azerbaijani delegation at the consultations was led by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Turkish delegation was led by Gülsun Erkul, Director General for Consular Affairs and Citizens Living Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey.
In the first part of the consultations, an exchange of views took place on the current state of bilateral cooperation in the consular field between the two countries, including the development of the legal-treaty framework in the sector, the protection of the rights and freedoms of the citizens of the two states, the provision of necessary consular assistance to them, and the expansion of relations in the fields of justice (including legal assistance), labor, and social protection.
In the second part of the consultations, the Turkish delegation was led by Ambassador Esin Çakıl, Director General for Migration Policy and Visa Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. In the second part of the talks, along with recent innovations implemented in the consular field, an exchange of experience regarding migration and visa policies was carried out, discussions were held on issues arising in the field of migration, and the Turkish side was informed about the visa and migration rules applied by the Republic of Azerbaijan within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Baku in 2024.
After the consultations, the Azerbaijani delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Migration Management (Migration Office) operating under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. The delegation held a meeting with Fatih Ayna, Head of the General Directorate for Foreigners’ Affairs of the Migration Management, where the other side was thanked for their support in various projects implemented regarding our citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan currently living in the Republic of Turkey, and discussions were held on issues of expanding cooperation.
Employees of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as employees of the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other relevant institutions of the Republic of Turkey, also participated in the meetings.
