Britain pledges large-scale defense for the Strait of Hormuz

Great Britain has announced that it will support a joint mission with fighter jets, unmanned aerial vehicles, and a warship to ensure navigation safety in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transport routes.
“Elchi” reports that Defense Secretary John Healey announced the details of the package at a virtual summit of defense ministers on Tuesday. The support will include autonomous systems to detect and clear sea mines, unmanned maritime vehicles, and Typhoon aircraft for air patrols.
The Strait of Hormuz is known as a strategic waterway through which approximately 20 percent of global oil and liquefied natural gas is transported. Significant increases in global energy prices occur due to Iran’s control over the region and the US blockade of Iranian ports.
Defense capabilities are being strengthened
the Ministry of Defense stated that the multinational mission announced by Britain and France last month is purely defensive in nature and aims to restore confidence in commercial shipping. In this context, a new fund of 115 million pounds has been allocated for mine-hunting drones and anti-drone systems. It was reported that the HMS Dragon air defense destroyer, currently heading to the region, will be ready for any mission to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz, and that the RFA Lyme Bay is continuing to be updated with new equipment needed for operations.
