The Iranian Armed Forces have expanded the control zone of their Naval Forces in the Strait of Hormuz.
elchi reports that this was stated by Mohammad Akbarzadeh, Deputy Commander of the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC – elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces).
“In the past, the Strait of Hormuz was considered a limited zone around islands such as Hormuz and Hengam, but today this approach has changed. According to the new concept, the borders of the Strait of Hormuz have been significantly expanded,” Tasnim agency quoted him as saying.
As the Iranian military commander explained, while previously it was a strip 20-30 miles (approximately 32-48 km) wide, now this distance has exceeded 200-300 miles (approximately 321-482 km), extending from the cities of Jask and Sirik to the areas behind the islands of Qeshm and Greater Tunb.
