US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Friday that Washington expects to receive Iran’s response to the American proposal during the day.
“Elchi” reports that “Iran International” has provided information on this matter.
“We should receive Iran’s response today,” Rubio told reporters during his visit to Italy.
Rubio noted that the United States has not yet received Tehran’s response, adding: “I hope it will be a serious proposal” and that it will “engage us in a serious negotiation process.”
“We will not negotiate with Hezbollah. We are focused on the Lebanese government,” Rubio emphasized while answering a question regarding the tensions between Israel, Lebanon, and Iran.
He also declared that in the event of an Iranian attack on American warships, the United States will offer resolute resistance, warning that forces threatening American ships “will be destroyed.”
“If they threaten Americans, they will be blown up,” Rubio said while commenting on recent clashes between American and Iranian forces near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Rubio, the US response measures to the firing on American destroyers by Iran are not related to Operation “Epic Fury.” He described this operation as an offensive campaign directed against Iran’s missile launchers, naval fleet, air force, and military factories.
“If you fire on a US Navy ship, what should we do? — Rubio asked. — Of course, we will respond.”
He also warned Iran’s fast-attack craft not to approach American warships, saying: “If those boats approach ours, we will blow them up.”
Furthermore, Rubio emphasized that the international community cannot agree to Iran establishing control over the Strait of Hormuz, warning that this would set a dangerous global precedent.
“Now Iran claims it has the right to control an international waterway, — Rubio said. — The world must decide whether it is prepared for this to be normalized.”
Rubio stated that the US is seeking a diplomatic solution and is working on a UN Security Council resolution aimed at preventing Iran from controlling the strait and mining it.
“If the answer is negative, if we do not want to normalize the situation, then you had better back up your words with something more than just firm statements,” he said.
Rubio also noted that humanitarian aid cannot enter the country due to the situation around the Persian Gulf.
