I am watching the Turkish series “Yeraltı” (Underground), and occasionally, vital and state-defining ideas are voiced. One of them is: “The difference between an intelligence officer and an ordinary citizen is that he knows before everyone else, and when he knows it along with everyone else, he is no different from an ordinary citizen!”
In Azerbaijan, the ‘AZ ADAM’ (the ‘Right Person’) knows the news (rumors, compromising materials, and other confidential information) before anyone else. Sometimes, political party leaders and the opposition contingent stir up a fuss on social media, saying, ‘Did you hear? Yaftıməli has been doing such-and-such shady business in such-and-such place!’ Yet, this ‘sensational’ information—I won’t even mention intelligence agencies—has long been known even to the grandmothers at the market.
What I mean is…
Sometimes (out of idleness), very strange thoughts come to my mind. For example, there is the ‘spirit-vodka’ type of person, the ‘wine’ type of person, the ‘cognac’ type of person, the ‘nothing’ type of person, the ‘soft drink’ type of person, or at best, the ‘vinegar’ type of person!
The Azerbaijani political environment and media space are filled with vinegar(-garlic) people, and all of them chant ‘Homeland, Nation, Sakarya!’ And… in the end… nothing!
One of those vinegar(-garlic) people who chants ‘Homeland, Nation, Sakarya’ and is a leading chest-beater is Jamil Hasanli! It is true that as a professional journalist, I should have left it to the reader to reach this conclusion after presenting the facts, but when ‘strong vinegar’ cracks its own container, one cannot help but speak out!
So, it goes like this: one cannot say that Jamil Hasanli is an inexperienced man. No, he has seen things! Jamil muallim has seen that a Man’s Word is given only once! Jamil muallim has also seen that those old-school men, to put an end to injustice, lack of conscience, and unfairness, sometimes displayed a stern look, and sometimes slammed their hands on the table!
However, knowing all this, seeing all this, Jamil muallim just keeps talking—empty talk!
It also cannot be said that Jamil muallim is an idle, uneducated man! No, Jamil muallim is a well-read, educated man!
But with all that reading, with all that education, Jamil muallim cannot become a ‘cognac’ person, I won’t even say spirit, he cannot even become a ‘wine’ person! He has lowered his own brand/standard to vinegar and VINEG(ar) personhood—a man could have been a wolf, but he turned away from himself and became a trained bear!
The reason is this…
An uprising breaks out in Russia (the historian professor himself knows the exact date), and Catherine II sends one of her favorites to negotiate, telling him to go and ask the leader of the rebels what they want. It turns out that their desire is for the rich to be gone. Historian Jamil muallim acts like the descendants of those Pugachev-Razins—let the rich in the country be destroyed! It is true that in the aftermath, he adds the people’s livelihood, child benefits, and veteran allowances to his words, but… at this age, the man still cannot find his way to suggest a path for those rich people to stand by this nation!
That is not even the problem: the man has read about Maximilien Robespierre, Adam Smith, Talleyrand, Richelieu, and taught lessons on Napoleon, but instead of being the author of great concepts, he cannot put anything on the table other than sour pickles—the essence is vinegar!
And no one tells him that…
In a conversation with God, Prophet Moses asks about the invincible commander sent to his people, and God says that he had sent the cobbler at the end of the street where you live as an invincible commander for your people, but that ‘vinegar’ went and chose to be a cobbler!
Now, Jamil muallim, if not by the absolute majority, is considered a good teacher by a sufficiently substantial contingent of students, and is recognized and accepted as a good historian among scholars!
What should the man do, what should be said to him?
Of course, go and do your teaching!
At the very least, if Jamil Hasanli considers himself a necessary, enlightened intellectual for this nation, for this homeland (he is a man lacking state thinking, so I won’t say for this state), he should have presented a teaching concept fifty times by now—he factually sees that education is in a terrible state! If he could say something smart about education, perhaps it would be heard at the level of the country’s leadership! What is he busy with now? ‘Stale news-mongering’! Even the ‘scam sites’ in Azerbaijan circulate more operative and fresher news than he does!
The man is chasing some fake agency in Europe, saying, ‘Did you hear? Javanshir Feyziyev has taken such-and-such amount of money out of the country!’
If Jamil Hasanli were a CONSCIENTIOUS AND FAIR person, at least a ‘cognac’ person, he would stand up in those places he frequents and demand the return of those 50 million from Europe to Azerbaijan!
At the very least, as a conscientious and fair person, he would shout in the streets of Europe he walks that this man did not earn this money in Azerbaijan AS AN OFFICIAL, he earned it as a BUSINESSMAN in the early years of independence!
If Jamil Hasanli were a fair and conscientious man, he would tear his hair out, scratch his face, and at worst, instead of speaking in European palaces where he is invited to speak against Azerbaijan, he would start a hunger strike, demanding that the money be returned to Azerbaijan, that it is money earned in Azerbaijan, and that there is no such thing as Javanshir Feyziyev’s business anymore! And following that, he would tell even more interesting truths that I, knowingly, did not write, but which align with his nature and intentions!

Jamil Hasanli knows many things and is cobbling—every time he makes such speeches, at the expense of the sense of conscience and justice he possesses, many people like me have to gain enemies! Because Jamil Hasanli manipulates, based on the constatation of facts! Does daring to tell deeper truths put a man face-to-face with a greater enemy—can a scholar, who is supposedly an intellectual of a nation and supposedly ‘fighting’ the government he calls a ‘regime’, be this cunning, can he allow such vile manipulation?
The man is INCOMPETENT! Arzu Asad is a very educated and dignified scientist. He took some work of Javanshir Feyziyev and wrote an article in ‘Adabiyyat Gazeti’. Using that article as an excuse, he went back to 2023-2024.
He wants to kill two birds with one stone and doesn’t hide it: Javanshir Feyziyev had written an article titled ‘Double Magpie’ about him and his patron.
I swear by the CPSU party card that elevated Jamil Hasanli, I swear by the books on the history of the ADR that made Jamil Hasanli an ‘intellectual’, I have not read any article, and the issue is not Javanshir Feyziyev—I swear on my father’s grave, the issue is the pettiness of a historian-scholar, a professor!
It is his cobbling!
It is his playing the descendant of Pugachev-Razin!
It is his drowning in the whirlpool of incompetence!
It is his behaving like the racketeers of ‘scam sites’ who support their wives and children through ‘complots’!
Jamil Hasanli should have understood by now, with this education and this life experience, that with his mind and the mind of the leader of the team he belongs to, this country, this state, this homeland cannot be taken anywhere!

The Russians had a magazine called ‘SPID-info’. In the early 90s of the last century, it had a headline based on a reader’s suggestion: “We know how to f*** ourselves, you tell us about others.”
Yes, let me finally convey a conversation between someone who was once in the same ranks as Jamil Hasanli and an official who also benefited from Jamil Hasanli and his leader:

Where are your (your comrades’) children, grandchildren? Are you vampires, destroying even the future of your own children and grandchildren in the name of an abstract ‘struggle against the regime’?
What is it to you, or your comrades, that 50 million pounds sterling were seized from Javanshir Feyziyev in England and Switzerland? Does the salvation of the Azerbaijani State, the Azerbaijani People end with the Javanshir Feyziyev topic? Or with Arzu Asad’s review of one of his works? Now what should Arzu Asad do, that he is not a conformist, not a manipulator like you, doesn’t know the way to get a deputy mandate like you, and cannot write about Aziz Aliyev and others like you?
What shall we do, tear down, drag?
At this age, don’t you understand that the London Court of Justice, for which you take a handkerchief to wipe your testicles, confiscated the money of Hosni Mubarak, Muammar Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein, and others, and didn’t say a single emotional step, let alone a kind word about their states and peoples! Actually, it was this pettiness of Jamil Hasanli—lowering the bar—that ‘enraged’ me! Man, the bunch of journalists who stand on your side, who praise you… I won’t mention Farhad Aliyev, Kamaladdin Heydarov, but Ali Hasanov, Vugar Safarli, Aflatun Amashov, and others, from their indecent places, and they look very bad (it is true, they also have new ‘bosses’, but I still don’t know exactly whose dog is whose!), and the ‘Soros-ites’ are in their place too!
Return to yourselves a little—to the times when you were a good teacher, a good scientist!
