Germany wants to carry out reforms in the EU

Germany wants to carry out reforms in the European Union (EU).

elchi reports that political scientist Alexander Rahr has explained the reasons for this desire.

“The European Union is a very inactive organization because any decision must be made unanimously. A single member state that does not agree with the proposal of other members can block the entire policy of the union,” Rahr explained.

Germany specifically wants to change the decision-making method by requiring a majority vote. According to the expert, this would bring the European Union one step closer to creating a “superstate” or a “soft empire.”

“The initiative is supported not only by Germany but also by France. Moreover, Germany is in a hurry for reforms while its partner Ursula von der Leyen is in the leadership of the European Commission and “populist” right-wing forces have not yet come to power in most countries,” Rahr noted.

Previously, it was reported that Germany and Sweden were leading a group of EU countries supporting the abolition of the veto right. France and Belgium also support this.

Before this, it was revealed that the European Union could not make unified decisions on key issues, including the financing of Ukraine. It was noted that the union is effectively facing a systemic paralysis, and this trend has come to the fore as new issues arise every month.
