France rejects draft resolution on suspension of EU-Israel Association Agreement

The French National Assembly has rejected a draft resolution on the suspension of the Association Agreement between Israel and the European Union (EU) due to human rights and international law violations.
“Elchi” reports that the draft resolution regarding the suspension of the EU-Israel association agreement was discussed in the National Assembly’s Committee on European Affairs.
The resolution was rejected during a committee meeting marked by high tension. While left-wing deputies supported the resolution, far-right and center-right members voted “no”.
Left-wing opposition Green Party deputy Sabrina Sebaihi reacted to the decision in her speech after the vote. Drawing attention to the voter turnout in the committee, Sebaihi said: “The number of those who voted against this resolution, including those who are not members of the committee, was very high.” Pointing to Israel’s violations in Gaza and Lebanon, Sebaihi stated that France has a responsibility to respect international and humanitarian law, adding: “While you sit quietly, children are dying, women are dying, and hospitals are not functioning.”
Sebaihi called the decision not to suspend the agreement, despite the crimes committed by Israel, “disgusting.”
Some EU member states had proposed the partial or full suspension of the Association Agreement with Israel due to Israel’s human rights and international law violations. However, since the decision to suspend the Association Agreement requires unanimous consent, such a step could not be taken.
