For the first time in history, the tournament will last 39 days, featuring 48 countries and a total of 104 exciting matches. In the championship where Argentina will attempt to defend its title as the current champion, countries like Jordan, Uzbekistan, Curaçao, and Cape Verde will experience the excitement of reaching the finals for the first time.
What will the new tournament format be like?
With the increase in the number of teams, radical changes have been made to the tournament format. Unlike previous years, there will be no direct advancement to the Round of 16 after the group stage; instead, a new playoff round involving 32 teams will be added. The football spectacle will begin on June 11 in Mexico and conclude with a grand final to be held on July 19 at the New Jersey stadium in New York. As part of its marketing strategies, FIFA has also renamed all stadiums throughout the tournament to reflect the names of their respective cities.
