Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has declared the necessity of carrying out comprehensive reforms in the armed forces and militarized structures within two years, as well as increasing the country’s defense potential.
“Elchi” reports that the head of state’s press service released information regarding this.
“We must increase our defense potential and, first and foremost, continue the technological modernization of the armed forces… We must carry out deep reforms in our armed forces and militarized structures. This is a strategically important task and must be fulfilled soon, within two years,” Tokayev said at an event held on the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day.
The President called the reforms an urgent requirement in these turbulent times. He reaffirmed his commitment to diplomatic methods of conflict resolution but warned that the country must be ready to defend its interests by force if necessary.
The Kazakh leader added that the country must strictly adhere to the principles and norms of international law and continue to strengthen friendly relations with all countries of the world. According to him, these unchanging principles are clearly enshrined in the new constitution, but this does not mean that we can sit idly by.
It should be noted that Defender of the Fatherland Day is celebrated in Kazakhstan on May 7. On this day in 1992, Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a decree on the creation of a national army. Since 2012, this holiday has been a state holiday.
