“The mission of the Church is to preach the Gospel, to preach peace. If someone wants to criticize me for preaching the Gospel… I just hope they will listen to me for the value of God’s words,” the Pope said.
Trump had previously told conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt that the Pope puts many Catholics and many people in danger because he considers it good for Iran to possess nuclear weapons.
The Pope has not declared that he supports Iran’s development of nuclear weapons.
Prior to this, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also responded to the US President’s accusations, stating that they were unacceptable and did not contribute to the cause of peace.
