Iran calls on UN countries regarding the Strait of Hormuz

Iran calls on all UN member states to act fairly and not to support the US draft resolution on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz at the world organization’s Security Council.

“Elchi” reports that this is stated in a declaration issued by Iran’s permanent mission to the organization.

“The only possible solution for the Strait of Hormuz is clear: end the war, lift the naval blockade, and restore normal passage (for ships – Ed.). Instead of resolving the crisis, the US is pushing a new flawed and politically motivated draft resolution in the UN Security Council under the pretext of ‘freedom of navigation’ to advance its political agenda and legitimize illegal actions. Iran calls on member states to act based on logic, justice, and principles rather than pressure, to reject the draft resolution, and to refrain from supporting or co-sponsoring it,” the statement noted.

At the beginning of April, a resolution on the Strait of Hormuz proposed by Bahrain was rejected by the UN Security Council. Eleven members of the Security Council voted in favor, Russia and China voted against, and Pakistan and Colombia abstained.

On May 5, the US submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council to protect freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in order to combat the threat posed by Iran.
