Canada breaks temperature record that has stood since 1898

The heat wave affecting British Columbia (BC) caused Vancouver to break its 128-year-old record. Environment Canada announced on Monday that the temperature in Vancouver reached 23.9 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous record of 22.2 degrees Celsius set in 1898.
elchi reports that daily temperature records were broken in 19 different regions of the province, including Pemberton (31.5°C) and Lytton (31.9°C). Meteorologists predict that the high temperatures are caused by a high-pressure ridge dominating the region, and that the weather will cool down slightly by the middle of the week, but temperatures will rise again by the weekend.
Record electricity consumption in May
Due to the hot weather, the increased use of fans and air conditioners has led to a historic surge in energy demand.
B.C. Hydro announced that electricity demand reached approximately 7,600 megawatts, which is the highest level ever recorded for the month of May.
Due to hot and dry spring conditions on the south coast of British Columbia, campfires have been banned, and new daily temperature records have been set in many communities, including Bella Coola, Campbell River, Nanaimo, and Squamish.
