Noting that no official ceasefire call has been made to Ukraine so far, Zelensky stated: “We believe that human life is incomparably more valuable than ‘celebrating’ any anniversary.”
Zelensky did not specify when the temporary ceasefire starting on May 6 would end, but stated that they would respond if Russia violates the ceasefire.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin has made a decision regarding a ceasefire in Ukraine. The statement said: “In accordance with the decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, a ceasefire is declared on May 8-9 to celebrate Victory Day. We hope that the Ukrainian side will comply with the ceasefire.”
