Merz demanded that Iran stop “holding the whole world hostage”

Chancellor Merz called on Iran to return to negotiations and abandon nuclear weapons.
elchi reports that Iran must return to the negotiating table and abandon its efforts to acquire nuclear weapons. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated this on his social media page.
“Tehran must return to the negotiating table and stop holding the region and the whole world hostage: the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz must end. Tehran must not acquire nuclear weapons,” Merz wrote.
He also emphasized that Iran must stop its “additional threats” and attacks against Europe’s partners.
In early May, the US President ordered the withdrawal of 5,000 American soldiers from Germany. The Pentagon clarified that the decision was made after a “comprehensive review of the US force posture” in Europe. However, American media linked this move to cooling relations with European allies and the redeployment of some of the relocated forces to the Indo-Pacific region. Reuters noted that the American leader’s statement was made against the backdrop of Merz’s criticisms. He accused the US of lacking an “exit strategy” for a war with Iran and claimed that Washington had been “humiliated” during negotiations. Later, it was announced that the American troop contingent in Germany would be reduced by more than 5,000 soldiers, which would jeopardize the deployment of long-range weapons, including Tomahawk missiles, in Germany.
