The Israeli chargé d’affaires in Madrid has been summoned to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the seizure of the “Global Sumud Flotilla” ships.
According to “Elchi”, this was reported citing a statement from the Spanish Foreign Ministry.
According to the information, Madrid firmly condemns the seizure of the flotilla ships by the Israeli Navy, and a strong protest has been lodged with the Israeli diplomat in this regard.
According to the ministry, there were Spanish citizens on board the seized ships, and Spanish diplomats in Israel are in contact with the organizers of the mission regarding this matter.
Also, Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has held talks with his counterparts in other countries whose citizens were on the ships.
Earlier, it was reported that the Israeli Navy had seized 15 of the 58 ships of the pro-Palestinian “Sumud” flotilla overnight near the Greek island of Crete.
Relations between Israel and Spain have deteriorated significantly against the backdrop of the war in Gaza. Israel has expressed its dissatisfaction with being harshly criticized by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
In addition, Madrid has opposed a joint US-Israeli operation against Iran, which has caused a sharp reaction from Tel Aviv. Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Spain of conducting a diplomatic campaign against Israel and banned it from participating in the work of a post-war Gaza stabilization center under US auspices. Both countries have recalled their ambassadors.
