In his statement, lawyer Sahib Mammadov stated that the construction of the B5 station near the “Nizami” station, under the Central Park, is unwise. According to him, the area is an active zone of groundwater, and the hydrogeological conditions of the area do not allow for the implementation of such projects.
Moreover, he also stated that it is an extremely expensive, inefficient project that could pose a danger.
It was reported to elchi by the press service of Baku Metro CJSC that, considering Baku’s location in an area characterized by complex hydrogeological conditions, the geological structure, as well as depth and other issues, were all specifically taken into account during the design of the station and tunnels, and possible risks were assessed:
“In addition, the experience, impacts, and technological factors of the ‘Nizami-28 May’ section during its nearly 50 years of operation have been specifically studied and analyzed. During the construction of the B-5 station and the tunnels passing through the area, the most advanced technologies that ensure safety will be used, taking all risks into account.”
It was noted that transfers between lines in metro principles allow for the regulation of passenger flow, the creation of more diverse, suitable, and comfortable transport conditions for people, and the optimization and expansion of transport integration:
“On the other hand, this transfer will also provide a second exit for the ‘Nizami’ station, which is of great importance for deep-foundation stations.”
S. Mammadov had emphasized that this station could be excessively expensive and that it would be more appropriate to build several stations instead.
Baku Metro, however, did not answer the question about how much the B5 station would cost and the price difference compared to other stations.
It should be noted that as part of the state program, the B5 station will be built near the “Nizami” metro station by 2030. The station will be located under the Central Park and will provide a connection to the “Nizami” station.
