The Republic of Azerbaijan, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), will host World Environment Day (WED) in Baku on June 5, 2026.
According to information provided to “Elchi” by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the event will be held under the theme “Inspired by Nature. For the Climate. For Our Future.”
It was noted that Azerbaijan accepted the baton for World Environment Day at the event held in the Republic of Korea in 2024.
“Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, World Environment Day is a global platform for environmental action that brings together millions of people.
It should be noted that Azerbaijan continues its activities in the direction of expanding protected natural areas, preserving biodiversity, restoring ecosystems, and combating climate change. As a party to the Paris Agreement, the country has also committed to reducing emissions and is expanding the field of renewable energy.
Continuing the momentum created by hosting COP29, Azerbaijan aims to contribute to further strengthening international cooperation and turning environmental commitments into practical action through this event.
The Republic of Azerbaijan and the UN Environment Programme invite all parties to join World Environment Day and work together for the protection of the environment,” the statement said.
