On April 29, a delegation from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, led by Minister Colonel-General Kamaladdin Heydarov, visited the Republic of Uzbekistan to participate in the international event dedicated to the “International Day of Remembrance for Earthquake Victims.”
According to the information provided to elchi by the Ministry, the delegation first visited the monument to the National Leader of our people, Heydar Aliyev, in Tashkent, laid wreaths at its base, and paid deep tribute to his cherished memory.
It should be noted that April 29 is observed as the “International Day of Remembrance for Earthquake Victims” in accordance with a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly last year at the initiative of Uzbekistan.
The main purpose of the event held in Tashkent, in which the Azerbaijani MES delegation participated, was to serve as an important international platform for the exchange of experience, strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and discussing effective strategies for increasing earthquake preparedness and resilience at a global level.
Delegations from various countries and international organizations, as well as renowned scientists and experts, attended the event.
The event highlighted the importance of mobilizing the capabilities of states to reduce disaster risks related to earthquakes and establishing a sustainable dialogue mechanism among internationally recognized scientists, researchers, and experts in the field of seismic safety. Issues such as mutual exchange of experience in this direction, including conducting joint scientific research through the application of modern technical achievements and digitalization, and implementing the results on a global scale, were discussed.
Within the framework of the international event, participants visited the “Courage” monument, erected in memory of the victims of the devastating earthquake that occurred in Tashkent in 1966.
During the event, the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Kamaladdin Heydarov, met with the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Major-General Azizbek Ikramov.
Thanking for the attention and hospitality shown to the delegation during the visit, Minister K. Heydarov stated that the international event was organized at a high level and emphasized its significance. Recalling that the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan relations, which have ancient historical roots, have developed rapidly in recent years to the level of strategic partnership thanks to the efforts of the leaders of the two countries based on wise foresight and mutual trust, the Minister noted that there are broad opportunities for further expanding ties between the agencies responsible for emergency management in this context.
The Minister stated that the “Joint Action Plan for 2026-2027 between the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan” is currently in the active implementation phase and that the planned measures are being successfully carried out.
The Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Azizbek Ikramov, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the participation of the Azerbaijani delegation in the event dedicated to the “International Day of Remembrance for Earthquake Victims” held in Tashkent. Minister A. Ikramov emphasized that the relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, which have a centuries-old history, are expanding year by year thanks to the strategic and wise vision of the leaders of both countries. The Minister noted the mutual benefit of further expanding ties between the relevant agencies of the two countries in the field of combating emergency situations and spoke about the measures taken in this direction.
A broad exchange of views on issues of mutual interest took place during the meeting.
