Russian superyacht passes through the Strait of Hormuz despite blockade

A $500 million superyacht, reportedly owned by one of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s closest allies, has passed through the Strait of Hormuz despite the ongoing blockade.
elchi reports that the 142-meter luxury yacht named “Nord,” linked to sanctioned Russian billionaire Alexei Mordashov, set sail from Dubai to Muscat, the capital of Oman, over the weekend.
This passage is one of the rare private vessel movements in the critical waterway in recent months.
Global energy supply at risk
Maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, through which about one-fifth of the world’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies pass, is well below pre-war levels.
Tensions and the blockade in the region have also caused an upward trend in global oil prices; the price of Brent crude oil rose to $109 per barrel on Monday.
