US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated in a briefing for journalists that Iran has a “good chance” to reach a “good and wise” deal.
elchi reports that this was announced by Reuters.
“Iran has an important choice ahead. A chance to make a deal — a good deal, a wise deal,” he said.
According to Hegseth, as a result of the US blockade of Iranian ports, 34 ships have turned back and moved in the opposite direction.
“For the Tehran regime, the blockade is getting tighter every hour. We are in control of the situation. Nothing comes from nothing. Our blockade is expanding and taking on a global character,” Hegseth noted.
He also emphasized that the blockade would continue as long as necessary: “We have an eternity in reserve, and we are in no hurry to make a deal.”
Hegseth also sharply criticized Europe in his speech:
“America and the free world deserve allies capable of doing great things, who remain loyal to us and understand that an alliance is a two-way street, not a one-way one. We are not counting on Europe, but the Strait of Hormuz is much more important to them than it is to us. Perhaps, instead of talking less and holding grand conferences in Europe, they should get in a boat and come here. This is their fight much more than it is ours.”
