US seizes Iranian oil tanker in the Indian Ocean

In a statement by the US Department of Defense, it is reported that US forces conducted an operation in the Indian Ocean, within the area of responsibility of the US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), against the M/T Majestic X, a vessel carrying Iranian oil and sailing under a non-sponsored flag. The statement, which notes that US troops boarded the vessel, says: “International waters cannot be used as a shield by sanctioned actors. The Department of Defense will continue to deny maneuver freedom to illicit actors and their vessels in the maritime domain. We will continue our operations to disrupt illicit networks and interdict vessels that provide material support to Iran, regardless of where they operate.”
