A murder committed 30 years ago in Azerbaijan has been solved, and two people have been arrested.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated in a joint statement by the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
It was noted that the investigation into the criminal case initiated on June 12, 1997, regarding the fact that Gulmammad Bayramov, son of Khanahmad, left his home on April 10, 1996, and did not return, was continued by the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
As a result of numerous investigative and operational-search measures, reasonable suspicions were established that Shahin Jalilov, son of Mahmud, and Hidayat Gafarov, son of Shirzad, acting as a group of persons in prior conspiracy, committed a robbery and intentionally killed Gulmammad Bayramov for the purpose of greed and to conceal another crime.
Investigations revealed that Sh. Jalilov and H. Gafarov, acting in prior conspiracy as a group, approached Gulmammad Bayramov, who was working as a taxi driver in his spare time near the “Neftchilar” metro station in Baku on April 10, 1996, as customers. While traveling to the Qara-Chuxur settlement of the Surakhani district, they strangled the victim with a rope in the car and intentionally killed him for the purpose of greed.
Later, in order to conceal the traces of the crime, they hid the body inside a concrete-covered pipeline in the Qara-Chuxur settlement, dismantled the victim’s car, sold the parts, and divided the proceeds among themselves.
During the on-site verification of the suspects’ testimonies, the remains of Gulmammad Bayramov’s body were discovered at the scene as a result of search measures carried out with the participation of employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
On April 22 of the current year, Shahin Jalilov and Hidayat Gafarov were charged as defendants under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and based on the motion of the investigative body and the prosecutor’s submission, the Binagadi District Court of Baku city selected a preventive measure of arrest against both individuals.
Currently, the preliminary investigation into the criminal case is ongoing.
Solving cold cases from previous years remains a priority, and joint measures with relevant state bodies in this direction are continuing.
