In Azerbaijan, the methods of committing sabotage will also include the use of practical artificial intelligence technologies and special software.
“Elchi” reports that this issue is reflected in the draft law on amendments to the Criminal Code, which was discussed at today’s meeting of the Milli Majlis.
According to the draft law, the destruction, damage, or disruption of the normal operation of life support and critical information infrastructure facilities, energy and transport infrastructure, telecommunication networks, enterprises, and installations, as well as causing harm to public health and the environment, with the aim of weakening the defense capability, economic security, and scientific-technical potential of the Republic of Azerbaijan, committed through explosions, arson, mass poisoning, spreading infectious diseases, or using practical artificial intelligence technologies and special software for the same purpose, shall be punishable by imprisonment for a term of eight to fifteen years.
The same acts, when committed by an organized group or criminal association, during a state of emergency or martial law, a social emergency regime, or mass riots, by a person using their official position, or resulting in the death of a person or other grave consequences through negligence, shall be punishable by imprisonment for a term of twelve to twenty years.
A person who has participated in the preparation of a sabotage act shall be exempted from criminal liability if they notify the authorities in a timely manner or otherwise assist in preventing such an act, provided that their actions do not contain the elements of another crime.
