Prosecutor General’s Office: Reports about Ahmed Ahmedov’s discharge from the hospital are false

“False information has been disseminated by some social media entities regarding the release of Ahmed Ahmedov, who intentionally killed 5 family members in the capital’s Khatai district on 13.02.2024, from the medical facility where he is being held. We strongly condemn and refute such fabricated information, which serves to create artificial agitation in society and deliberately mislead public opinion.”

“Elchi” reports that this was stated in a declaration issued by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

It was noted that the causes and circumstances of the crime, which caused great public resonance, the nature and culpability of the accused’s actions, as well as other circumstances to be proven, were fully and comprehensively investigated by the prosecution authorities together with other subjects of operational-search activity during the preliminary investigation.

“Furthermore, since it was proven based on credible evidence collected during the preliminary investigation and examined during the court hearing that Ahmed Ahmedov committed the mentioned particularly grave crime while in a state of insanity and that he poses a danger to society, in accordance with the requirements of the legislation, by the decision of the Baku Court of Grave Crimes dated 10.10.2024, no punishment was imposed on him, and he was sent for compulsory treatment under intensive observation in a specialized psychiatric hospital.

A. Ahmedov’s inpatient treatment is currently continuing under the strict supervision of doctors at the relevant psychiatric hospital, and his discharge from the hospital is complete nonsense. We remind you that the dissemination of such false information that creates artificial panic in the public directly leads to legal liability. Taking the above into account, we once again ask citizens to refrain from sharing unverified and distorted information that has not been clarified with the relevant state agencies,” the statement says.
