German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has announced plans to convene the National Security Council in the near future to discuss the country’s fuel supply situation.
“Elchi” reports that he stated this at the opening of the Hannover Messe.
He noted that kerosene reserves are tight but manageable. Merz emphasized that the supply of diesel, gasoline, and aviation fuel must remain stable.
Economy Minister Katherine Reiche stated that Germany has a strategic reserve of approximately 1 million tons of kerosene, which would last for about five months if necessary.
Against the backdrop of this situation, the International Energy Agency had previously warned about a possible jet fuel shortage in Europe and the risk of flight cancellations in the event of supply disruptions. It was also reported that a number of airlines are already reducing flights and optimizing fleet usage due to rising fuel prices.
