In line with Elon Musk’s vision of an “everything app,” X (formerly Twitter) has taken a giant step in merging social media with the financial world. Thanks to the Cashtags feature added to the platform, users can now track stock and cryptocurrency markets instantly without leaving their timelines.
elchi reports that, thanks to a pilot partnership with the Canadian brokerage firm Wealthsimple, users can trade directly with a single click on the tag.
How does Cashtags work?
X platform Product Manager Nikita Bier announced that the system brings financial data and social interaction together on a single screen:
When users type a stock symbol (e.g., $TSLA) with a dollar sign in a post or paste a cryptocurrency wallet address, the system automatically recognizes the relevant asset. When clicking on the selected tag, live price charts and posts related to that asset are displayed side-by-side within the app. Thanks to the Wealthsimple integration, especially in Canada, users are redirected to a pre-filled trading interface by simply tapping a tag, allowing them to make transactions in seconds.
