EU to have a second mission in Armenia

The European Union will have a second mission in Armenia.

This was reported by the Armenian service of “Radio Liberty”.

According to the information, the ambassadors of the European Union (EU) member states in Brussels have approved the decision to send a civilian mission to Armenia. It was stated that this step paves the way for the final approval of the decision at the meeting of EU foreign ministers next week.

According to the document obtained by “Radio Liberty”, the proposal submitted by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy defines the mandate, structure, and duration of the mission. According to the document, the mission will focus on strengthening Armenia’s resilience against hybrid threats and will provide strategic and practical advice, as well as support to ministries and security agencies. These consultations will cover areas such as preventing information manipulation, detecting and responding to cyberattacks, and identifying illicit financial flows.

At the same time, the mission will assess the resources and capabilities needed to develop Armenia’s security potential so that the country can more effectively detect and respond to hybrid threats in accordance with EU standards.

It should be noted that the first EU mission arrived in Armenia in February 2023, and that mission conducts patrols in the border regions of Armenia with Azerbaijan; it is scheduled to remain in Armenia until February 19, 2027. (Apa)
