US Vice President JD Vance, who set off for historic talks in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, made the following statements: If they try to stop us, they will see that our negotiating team is absolutely not inclined to accept that.
elchi reports that US Vice President JD Vance answered journalists’ questions on the plane before the Iran-US summit, which will begin today in Islamabad. Stating that President Trump gave him and the delegation “very clear rules” for the negotiation process, Vance emphasized that they are ready to give diplomacy a chance, but will test Tehran’s sincerity. Regarding the tone of the talks, Vance used the following expressions:
“If the Iranians are ready to negotiate in good faith, we are definitely ready to extend an open hand to them; that is one side of it. But if they try to stop us, they will see that our negotiating team is absolutely not inclined to accept that.”
Vance stated that the Trump administration has opened the door to a peaceful solution, but this depends on Iran’s attitude. The summit, held at the invitation of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aims to turn the temporary ceasefire announced two weeks ago into a permanent agreement. Vance is accompanied in the US delegation by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while the Iranian delegation is expected to be led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. The main agenda items of the talks are the security of the Strait of Hormuz, economic sanctions, and military activity in the region.
