Historic negotiations between Lebanon and Israel may take place

Lebanese President Michel Aoun has called for direct negotiations with Israel.

elchi reports that the “Reuters” agency has provided information on this matter.

It is noted that after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the call for peace talks, Lebanon had no choice but to engage in direct negotiations.

However, the “Hezbollah” armed group opposes direct talks with Israel, which casts doubt on the group’s willingness to adhere to any ceasefire agreement reached by the state.

“Negotiations between Lebanon and Israel are, frankly speaking, meaningless because those conducting these talks on behalf of Lebanon lack leverage,” said a Lebanese official close to the group.

It should be recalled that after a rocket attack by “Hezbollah” on March 2, Israel intensified its airstrikes on Lebanon. Since then, Israel has also expanded its ground operations.
