China will “absolutely not tolerate” Taiwan’s independence.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated by the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping.
“We are determined to keep the future of relations between both sides of the Taiwan Strait firmly in the hands of the Chinese people,” the Chinese leader emphasized during his meeting with the chairman of Taiwan’s opposition Kuomintang party, Chu Li-luan.
It is noted that these are the first talks held between the leaders of the two parties in the last 10 years. During the meeting, Xi Jinping noted that no changes in the international situation can stop the historical trend toward national reunification and pointed out the necessity of showing firm resistance against separatists. According to the PRC leader, supporters of the island’s independence are the main culprits behind the disruption of peace in the Taiwan Strait.
