A critical meeting took place against the backdrop of tensions between the US and NATO. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte met with US President Donald Trump.
“Elchi” reports that the main topics of the meeting, held behind closed doors at the White House, were US-NATO relations and a temporary ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran. No joint statement was issued after the meeting.
NATO Secretary General Rutte commented on the meeting to the American media.
Rutte said: “We had a very open and sincere meeting with Trump.” Rutte stated that Trump expressed his disappointment with NATO allies. “I told Trump that most European countries support him,” he said.
On the other hand, US President Trump made a statement on his social media account.
Trump said: “NATO was not there when we needed it, and it will not be there if we need it again.”
In his post, Trump also criticized NATO for not supporting the US on the Greenland issue.
