On April 9, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, received the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, Ingrida Šimonytė.
elchi reports that the head of our state expressed his hope that the visit of the Prime Minister of Lithuania to our country would be productive and contribute to the development of our bilateral relations.
Expressing her gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev for the reception, Ingrida Šimonytė noted with satisfaction that Azerbaijan and Lithuania have enjoyed good relations for many years.
During the conversation, it was noted that there are good prospects for further expansion of economic and trade relations between our countries, discussions were held on cooperation in energy, investments, education, agriculture, and other fields, and the importance of organizing mutual visits of delegations in the work of expanding our relations was noted.
The Prime Minister of Lithuania conveyed her congratulations to the head of our state on the establishment of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Stating that large-scale restoration and construction works are being carried out in our liberated territories, the Prime Minister of Lithuania noted that large-scale work is being carried out by the Azerbaijani state towards the return of former internally displaced persons.
Expressing his gratitude for the congratulations, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that it was our country that initiated peace in the region and the establishment of trade relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The head of our state stated that the return of nearly 30,000 former internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands has already been ensured. President Ilham Aliyev said that cities and villages are being built by Azerbaijan in our liberated territories, and transport and other social infrastructure projects are being implemented. However, the head of our state noted that the problem of mines exists in those territories, which slows down the restoration and construction work. President Ilham Aliyev stated that more than 400 people have been killed or injured in mine explosions in our territories liberated from occupation since the Patriotic War.
At the meeting, in addition to the bilateral agenda of Azerbaijan-Lithuania relations, issues of cooperation within the framework of international organizations were touched upon. In this regard, it was emphasized that Lithuania has always supported the development of Azerbaijan’s relations with the European Union.
During the conversation, an exchange of views on regional issues also took place.
