Guterres welcomes temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the temporary ceasefire reached between the US and Iran, as well as Israel.
elchi reports that in a written statement by the UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, it was stated that Guterres called on all parties involved in the regional conflict to fulfill their obligations under international law and to respect the terms of the ceasefire.
The statement noted that the ceasefire is essential for establishing a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region and that Guterres is pleased with the two-week ceasefire.
The statement also mentioned that Guterres emphasized the importance of an immediate cessation of military operations for the protection of civilians and the reduction of humanitarian suffering, and expressed satisfaction with the mediation efforts carried out by various countries, especially Pakistan, to achieve the ceasefire. The statement also shared information that the UN Secretary-General’s special representative, Jean Arnault, is continuing his contacts in the region and supporting efforts toward lasting peace.
US President Donald Trump announced that he had agreed to a two-week mutual ceasefire with Iran on the condition that the Strait of Hormuz be fully opened.
On the other hand, the Iranian government stated that it aims to conclude negotiations in Pakistan to end the war with the US and Israel during the 15-day ceasefire period.
