US President Donald Trump, stating that he rejected NATO’s request for help regarding Iran, said: “I have always said that NATO is a paper tiger. Putin is not afraid of NATO. Putin is afraid of us, very afraid of us. He has stated this openly many times.”
“Elchi” reports that US President Donald Trump held a joint press conference at the White House on Friday with Secretary of Defense Pit Hegset, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Kane, and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency John Ratcliffe regarding operations to rescue the crew of an F-15 aircraft shot down by Iran.
In response to a question about whether taking a leading position within NATO could pose a threat to the US, Trump said, “No, this is not a threat.”
Trump, stating that he rejected NATO’s request for help regarding Iran, said, “I have always said that NATO is a paper tiger. Putin is not afraid of NATO. Putin is afraid of us, very afraid of us. He has stated this openly many times.” Trump stated, “NATO is a paper tiger. NATO is us. When we needed them, they were not with us. We didn’t really need them.” He added that NATO allies did not even provide landing strips and said: “It wasn’t just NATO. Do you know who else didn’t help? South Korea didn’t help. Australia didn’t help. Do you know who else didn’t help? Japan! We have 50,000 troops in Japan. To protect them from North Korea.” Trump continued, saying: “Japan, Australia, and South Korea didn’t help. Then you come to NATO. NATO didn’t help.” He also noted that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte would visit him on Wednesday, adding: “Actually, it all started with Greenland. We want Greenland, but they don’t want to give it to us. So I said ‘Goodbye’.”
