Azerbaijan national team finished first in the “Great Silk Road” tournament with 21 medals

In Baku, the winners of the traditional Great Silk Road international tournament for men’s and women’s boxers have been determined.

“Elchi” reports that 126 athletes from 10 countries tested their strength in the 6-day competition.

The tournament organized at the Boxing Center was successful for the Azerbaijan national team. In the first match of the final stage held today, Subhan Mamedov (50 kg) fought his teammate Bilalhəbaşi Nəzərov. The fight concluded with the world champion’s 5:0 victory (29:28, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28, 29:28).

Following this, there were Azerbaijani duels in the decisive stage. Amin Məmmədzadə (55 kg) won a gold medal by defeating Zəlimxan Süleymanov. The matches Tayfur Əliyev (60 kg) – Məhəmmədəli Aşırəliyev and Malik Həsənov (65 kg) – Zaur Qəhrəmanov were recorded as victories for the first-place finishers.

In the 90 kg category, Surət Qarayev defeated Joshua Hesken (Australia) – 3:2 (30:27, 28:29, 28:29, 29:28, 29:28). Məhəmməd Abdullayev (+90 kg) also continued the success of his teammates. He became the strongest in his weight class by defeating Alexander Shaw (Australia) with a score of 3:2 (29:28, 29:28, 27:30, 30:27, 27:30).

Among our other boxers, Seyid Seyidov (80 kg) won silver, while Zidan Hünbətov (55 kg), Məhəmmədəli Qasımzadə (60 kg), Sərxan Əliyev (70 kg), Səidcəmşid Cəfərov, Rasim Çobanlı (both 75 kg), Həsən Osmanlı (80 kg), Murad Allahverdiyev (85 kg), Səbuhi Əlizadə (+90 kg), Günel Rəhimova (51 kg), and Emili Rzayeva (65 kg) won bronze medals.

Our national team took first place in the team standings with 21 medals – 6 gold, 5 silver, and 10 bronze – and won the Great Silk Road Cup. Kazakhstan (3-5-7) placed second, and Turkey (3-0-3) completed the “top three”.

Bakberqen Aliaskarov (Kazakhstan) was selected as the best boxer in the tournament. Rachid Benaiça (Algeria) was awarded the title of best referee.
