Philippines Granted ‘Safe Passage’ in Strait of Hormuz

The Philippine government announced that its ships would be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. This decision, made after diplomatic relations between Manila and Iran, is considered an important step in increasing maritime transport in the region.
“Elchi” reports that, to ensure energy security and continue oil shipments, the Philippines aimed to be recognized by Iran as a “non-hostile state.”
Official statements confirmed that these negotiations yielded positive results.
“Safe, Unhindered, and Swift Passage”
Philippine Foreign Minister Tereza Lazaro stated that meetings with her Iranian counterpart were productive. The Iranian side assured “safe, unhindered, and swift passage” for vessels sailing under the Philippine flag, as well as ships carrying Philippine energy and crewed by Filipino seafarers.
This development is considered a strategic gain, especially for the safety of Filipino seafarers, who hold a significant share in the global maritime sector, and for the country’s energy supply.
As a result of this decision, the acceleration of passages in the Strait of Hormuz is expected.
