Gennaro Gattuso has resigned from his position as head coach of the Italian national team.
“Elchi” reports that the federation has released information about this.
It was stated that the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and the 48-year-old specialist have agreed to terminate the contract by mutual consent.
The reason for the separation was the Italian national team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. In the last qualifying round, Gattuso’s team lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina (1:1, 1:4 on penalties).
“FIGC thanks Gattuso and his entire staff for their dedication, loyalty, and enthusiasm shown over the past nine months and wishes them success in their future careers,” the statement said.
It should be noted that Gattuso has been leading the Italian team since June 2025.
