In a statement made on the social media account of a US-based company, the embassy stated that “Iraqi terrorist militias” linked to Iran may be planning attacks in central Baghdad within the next 24-48 hours.
The statement claims that Iran and its affiliated “terrorist militias” are carrying out large-scale attacks targeting American citizens and US-related targets in various parts of Iraq, including the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq.
It was noted that these groups may target American citizens, companies, universities, diplomatic facilities, energy infrastructure, hotels, airports, and other points believed to be related to the US, as well as Iraqi institutions and civilian targets.
In the statement, which also reported that militias are targeting Americans with the aim of kidnapping them, US citizens were urged to leave Iraq immediately. The statement also claimed that the Iraqi government has been unable to prevent “terrorist attacks” occurring within the country or from Iraqi territory, and that some militia groups may be affiliated with the Iraqi government, and some attackers may carry identification cards presenting themselves as Iraqi government employees.
