Against the backdrop of a possible halt to shipping via the Strait of Hormuz, the growth of world trade turnover could significantly slow down.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated in the report of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
According to expert assessments, disruptions in the strait’s operations have already become a shock for world trade. It is noted that, as a result, against the backdrop of weakening global demand and increasing uncertainty, the growth of global trade turnover could decrease from 4.7% in 2025 to 1.5-2.5% in 2026.
“Provided that the conflict does not escalate further, world economic growth rates could slow down from 2.9% in 2025 to 2.6% in 2026,” the report stated.
