Portugal to open an embassy in Azerbaijan

On April 1, a phone conversation was held between Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Portugal’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel.

According to information provided by the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to “Elchi”, during the phone conversation, the ministers discussed the current state and development prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Portugal, as well as regional and international security issues.

The Portuguese minister noted that a decision had been made to raise the level of his country’s diplomatic representation in Azerbaijan and to open an embassy in our country. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov thanked him for this decision.

The ministers emphasized the importance of the mechanism of political consultations and mutual visits for the development of bilateral relations. Existing opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, trade, transport, and tourism were reviewed.

The parties also touched upon issues of cooperation within international organizations and noted the importance of continuing mutual support.

The ministers expressed their concerns about the increasing military escalation in the Middle East and noted the necessity of a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.

The ministers also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
