The Great Silk Road international tournament for women and men boxers will kick off in Baku on April 2.
“Elchi” reports, citing the official website of the federation, that the national teams of Azerbaijan, Australia, Algeria, Bulgaria, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Turkey, and Uzbekistan will compete in the traditional event to be organized at the Boxing Center.
126 boxers will test their strength for 14 sets of medals (10 weight categories for men, 4 for women). The winners of the tournament will be determined on April 7.
Azerbaijan will be represented by 37 boxers in the men’s competition and 6 boxers in the women’s competition.
The opening ceremony of the tournament will be held tomorrow at 15:00. The fights will commence afterwards.
It should be noted that Svetoslav Sapoundjiyev (Bulgaria) will be the tournament’s supervisor, and Anar Babanlı (Azerbaijan) will be the head referee. In addition to Azerbaijani referees, officials from Algeria, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Turkey, and Uzbekistan will also officiate the matches.
