Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenka stated that the country is preparing for war, but is strongly against it.
“Elchi” reports that he stated this at a meeting held after a comprehensive review of the Armed Forces.
“There can be no peace. We are preparing for war. That is why we created the Armed Forces, that is why we maintain them, that is why the people pay us to support them. And in this audience (not just in this performance), people should understand: we are absolutely against war. Especially our officers, our soldiers, our Armed Forces.”
Lukashenka emphasized that Belarus does not want war, but the army is precisely designed for it. He warned that if anyone decides to look at the country with the gaze of a weapon, Minsk will respond, and Belarus is precisely preparing for this.
The Belarusian leader called on the meeting participants for a completely frank discussion, hiding nothing. He stated that the inspection was regular, but for the first time in the history of independent Belarus, it was on such a large scale. The main goal was to assess how military units, brought to full combat readiness, would operate in wartime conditions. Lukashenka called such inspections during peacetime a waste of resources and noted that “we don’t have extra money.”
