New rules announced for the World Cup

FIFA has announced new rules to be applied in the 2026 World Cup.

“Elchi” reports that, according to the new rules, player substitutions will be carried out faster. A player must leave the field within a maximum of 10 seconds. Otherwise, the player replacing him will have to wait 1 minute to enter the field, and the team will be shorthanded during this period.

Also, time limits will be applied during the resumption of the game. Throw-ins and goal kicks must be executed within 5 seconds. If this period is extended, the ball will be given to the opposing team.

According to the innovations, a player receiving medical assistance on the field will definitely leave the field and will wait 1 minute to return. However, if the injury occurs during a foul resulting in a yellow or red card, this will not be required.

In addition, the powers of the VAR system will be expanded. VAR will now be able to review incidents of sending off due to a second yellow card and incorrectly awarded corner kicks. There will also be a tightening of communication rules with referees. Only the team captain will be allowed to approach the referee. Other players surrounding the referee may be penalized with a yellow card.

It should be noted that the World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, will be held from June 11 to July 19.
